Why I Created Rolfing LA

February 1st, 2009

In this very first post I will explain why I decided to dedicate an entire site to Rolfing and more importantly Rolfing in Los Angeles.

About 2 months ago I began my first Rolfing session in Los Angeles, (well actually in West Hollywood to be exact), and since then it has and continues to change my life. I say continues because unlike other body work therapies I have received in the past… Chiropractors, Massage Therapists, even the Alexander Technique (you name it chances are I’ve done it), Rolfing stays with you long after the session is complete.

Anyway, I am one of those peeps that get pretty excited when I’m into something so I immediately told all my friends and family that I’ve been getting Rolfing done in Los Angeles.

Me: “Hey I just finished my first Rolfing session, I feel like a million bucks (I know the economy blows right now.. but a million bucks is still pretty amazing!)

Friend: “You got what done, where?”

Me: “Rolfing, here in Los Angeles, where else would I get it done”

Friend: “What the *&)(* is Rolfing?”…

And there, right there, came my “ah ha!” moment.

I soon realized (after the other 27 people I told about my Los Angeles Rolfing experience), that many people do not even know what Rolfing is. The closest thing I got was, “isn’t that some sort of massage where they do it really hard?” – hey that was a lot closer than my one friend who thought it was a party term when you can’t hold your booze and you Rolf in the morning.

Anyway, I thought why not create a site dedicated to Rolfing in Los Angeles to help raise awareness of the work itself AND for people to get a first hand idea of what to expect from EACH Rolfing Session.

That’s right. Rolfing is more than just a one off event. Though you can, and if that is what you can commit to, then I highly recommend it, benefit from a single session, Rolfing follows a series of 10 sessions each one building on the other.

I will be blogging about my experience after each session… so each of the 10 rolfing sessions will get its own post dedicated to what happened, during and how I felt after. I think this will greatly help educate people in deciding for themselves if Rolfing is something they can benefit from.

I imagine that every persons experience will be unique, just like every Rolfer practicing this work will be different as well (I can’t believe there can be anyone as good as my Los Angeles Rolfing Jedi Knight, but I am sure I’ll sing his praises in another post). If it can even slightly benefit someone out there in cyberspce, then I’ll feel like it was time well spent.

Till next time.

    Hi,
I just wanted to drop a note and say how much I appreciated your experience on rolfing. I’m currently going through rolfing also and find it an incredible experience! A lot of people, including my husband, thought it was hocus pocus when I came back raving how much “taller” and “freer” my ribs felt after the 1st session but after my 4th session, people are beginning to notice how I’m holding myself and the overall lightness of the body. I can’t wait till my next session!

Hey thanks! I can not say the same about other rolfers or other people’s experience with getting rolfed in Los Angeles – but Al is the Best Rolfer in Los Angeles to get body work done!

How did the rest of you rolfing sessions go?
